ADHD Affirmations

I am not a morning person, so the notion of getting up at 7:45 am to commute to an underpaying, dead-end job that forced me to do busy work in a crowded Manhattan office, knowing deep down I would be more productive at home, made me want to scream into the millennial void where all hopes and dreams go to die.

It was not until I took a management class at the Management Center that I realized I was being gaslit by the working world. The Management Center’s inclusive approach to different types of thinking, working styles, and relationships made me feel seen for the first time. Turns out, I was not a “failure” for my lack of focus. I was trying my best to survive in an incompatible working environment with little support.

If you are neurodivergent and having difficulty navigating the working world, you are not alone. Learning to trick your brain into conformity and productivity in the name of capitalism is no easy feat. I hope you find what makes you shine - and you can see how brilliant your brain is when you are set up for success. Here is a list of affirmations that have helped me along the way.

Affirmations

  1. There is more than one way to do things.

  2. My mind is bright and full of creative abundance.

  3. I am a creative problem solver.

  4. I am observant and make connections that others do not.

  5. When self-doubt creeps in, I remind myself of my strengths.

  6. I am in a constant state of evolution.

  7. My day job does not define my personal success.

  8. It’s okay to admit that I need a break.

  9. My productivity does not determine my worth.

  10. Jordin Sparks was spitting when she said- “One step at a time.”
